The Miracle Girl Reshma - Rescued After 17th days

Few days ago her name was Resma but now all the world has know to her the name of miracle girl Reshma. She has rescued on Friday; 391 hours after Rana Plaza came crashing down on April 24. They realize what is logically possible, but in the earnest corner of their minds have lit up a flash of hope that their dear ones may still be alive.

Resma had worked in Rana Plaza for only 22 days before the building came crashing down on her. With just a packet of biscuits & some water Reshma made it out of the ruins alive on Friday, after being trapped in the remains for 17 days. 3 days after her miraculous rescue, she was finally deemed mentally & physically stable to address journalists. However, she was hesitant & emotional in the beginning as she tried to recall her traumatic experience.

Resma could not remember which garment factory she had worked in, but she told that, it might be 2^nd floor. She has gone to the office at the morning. She saw people discussing & pointing to the cracks in the wall. But the ‘sirs’ said the cracks were caused by water & it’s not very serious.

 Just when she began work she had listen to the people shouting. We were asked to leave away the building slowly. When she was trying to leave, a co-worker told him, ‘Reshma we leave slowly, we will get out together.’ I went toward her & held her hand, when something fell on my head and down on the floor and loss my sense’. After some time, she regained her senses & realized people around her were yelling & crying, urging her to give them some water.

“It was so dark that I could not see or find anything; I might not give them water. Then “I have seen a man nearby me, who had told, ‘Apu, save me.’ I told him: how can I save you when I can not save myself. He screamed & screamed until he has died,” Resma added. After his death, Reshma think to find a way out. Crawling in the dark, she moved from one place to another, without finding any escape route. She had told “in my search, I have found a packet of biscuits & some water. But there was nothing else. I kept on stirring around.  

Finally, Resma saw a pile of bricks, & ho ped she would find a way if she could remove them.  She removed few bricks with her hands & then made a bigger hole with a stick, which she had found in the debris. Then she climbed through the hole & found herself in the market area (on the first floor).  

Asked how Resma was wearing clean clothes, Reshma has said her clothes had been soiled and torn from moving through the rubble. She had found a new set of clothes where she was trapped & changed into it before she was rescued.  

However, treatment & support over the last 3 days had made her more relaxed in talking about her experiences, Resma said, urging journalists not to ask questions that might shock her further.
